The La Ruta Maya River Challenge is a grueling race that is held annually in remembrance of Baron Bliss and his love for the sea. It commences at 6 am in the Macal River near the Hawks worth Bridge in San Ignacio and ends at the Bridge near Save-U supermarket. Imagine spending four days in a 20 foot canoe, under the scorching tropical sun, paddling at 70 strokes per minute for 6 hours, for a total of 180 miles in the Belize River. Think you would be able to handle it? This is why I have to applaud those Belizeans who were brave enough to take on this challenge for 2011 and also for all the past participants. It shows courage, perseverance, drive and character.
This annual race also gives families a reason to get out of the house and spend some much needed quality time together. So turn off the television, paste on the sunscreen and set a journey to follow these brave participants to the finish line.
Special encouragement goes out to our very own teammate, Bobby Dee Usher, and her team coming from the Jaguars Club. We wish you all the best love. We are behind you 100%. (also special thanks to the pit crews along the way) <3 J
